Air Conditioner Buying Tips
Most of today's homes have air conditioners. These days, seeing homes with central air is more common than seeing homes without them. In warmer climates, an air conditioner may be necessary for the comfort of the family. Most air conditioners will range in price, including installation, from three to six thousand dollars. This is not a small investment but one that is needed for comfort. If you need a new air conditioner, there are several things to consider prior to purchasing. For service to your existing system, get in touch with Edina air conditioning repair.
Air conditioning units must be installed by experienced contractors. The price could vary largely depending on the type of unit you bought and on existing ducts. Before deciding on the installer and type of unit, ask several qualified contractors for estimates. Ensure the contractor has experience and works well with you. Get references then check them carefully.
You need electricity to run air conditioners. Energy costs can increase significantly if you use the unit often. In warmer climates where it's essential for home cooling, this can be especially true. To help keep costs low, it's important to consider the efficiency of the unit. You might need to pay a larger sum initially, but you should be able to save on costs in the long run.
All air conditioning units must have an efficiency rating. Different units should be carefully compared to find the cost associated with each type of efficiency. The more efficient a unit is, the more money you will save on energy bills. With a more efficient air conditioner, less energy will be needed to run it to cool the house. To improve the efficiency of your air conditioner, contact Minnetonka air conditioning repair.
You will have to find out the right size unit needed for your home. This is an important step because units that are too small will have to work harder to cool the home. When the unit is too big, it will waste a lot of energy unnecessarily. A qualified contractor for air conditioners will be able to analyze the size of your house and recommend a unit appropriate for it.
Make sure you always get a contract before work with any contractor gets started. Make sure you've clearly spelled out all costs. The cost and installation of the unit should be included. It should also detail payment policies and warranties. The compressor and additional parts are generally covered by the warranty. Don't pick a unit whose compressor has less than a 5-year warranty, but if you can get a 10-year warranty then all the better. Usually, additional parts can have separate warranties ranging from one to five years.
Air Conditioner COVER?
I just moved into a townhouse and it has central air/heat. The A/C unit is outside in the back patio uncovered. I have 3 dogs that hang out in there and a 51/2 year old son that likes to be out there as well.
#1) i don't want the dogs to pee/poo on the unit
#2) i don't want my son to throw things in the fan (on top) or somehow get his hand in there and get injured.
We've temporarily blocked it off with a makeshift cardboard box around the whole thing with enough room around it so that the air can still 'pull-in' and not suck the cardboard to the unit.
what is a permanent solution to this so we can still use it without it getting damaged and without someone getting hurt?
thanks...also...i forgot to mention, it's all cement around it, no dirt. how would i keep it stable? and not have it be rickety.
You will have to build a fence around it. be sure not to cover the top and leave at least 24 inches around the unit.
Air conditioner cover (jsonline)
Q: Should I cover my air conditioner in the winter, and what is the proper way
to cover it?
A: Air conditioners should be covered in the winter, according to Bill Brink
of Kettle Moraine Heating & A/C in Genesee Depot.
While air conditioners typically should not be affected by outdoor conditions,
“Covering your air conditioner is important for keeping leaves, pin
wheels, and other debris out of the unit,” he said. If water drain holes
in the bottom of the unit become plugged with debris, water won’t be
able to drain, which can cause corrosion.
“Keeping pooling water out of the unit also is good because the unit
does use electricity — and we all know water and electricity don’t
mix well,” he said.
There is a wrong way to cover an air conditioner. “As I drive through
neighborhoods, I always see a couple homes that have a blue tarp wrapped tight
around the A/C unit. This tarp will shield the inside of the unit from the
elements… and create a beautiful environment for animals to live and
thrive.”
Brink’s most common “no cooling call” is due to mice chewing
on and shorting out wires, transformers and ...
