Stir Fries: Making Great Dinners With Restricted Time

For those who're in search of easy to organize, last minute, healthier, meal decisions contemplate Stir Fries. And, to be sincere, I am pretty impressed with what I got here up with because my choices have been somewhat restricted: 4 carrots, 2 stalks of asparagus, four inexperienced onions, a yellow onion (already chopped - phew!), leftover brown basmati rice, eggs (I only needed one), rooster broth and what I assumed was frozen halibut, turned out to be sole.

Thankfully, I also had a spread of seasonings on hand - always! - And decided on oyster sauce with garlic powder, kosher salt and black pepper, to taste.

My husband, who is not a big fan of sole on any day, actually favored what I came up with - even with the only real! And, it was SO simple!

Earlier than beginning to cook anything I ready the veggies - julienned the carrots, chopped up the green onion and asparagus and diced the yellow onion a little smaller. Then reduce the only into large chew size pieces.

With every part able to go I grabbed a small frying pan for the fish and a bigger deep-dish frying pan for the veggies, the egg and rice.

The only was seasoned with a pinch of kosher salt and pepper and sauteed in a little bit of oil over medium heat until cooked. I added a few dashes of oyster sauce to the fish on the very finish for slightly more taste.

Because the fish was cooking the veggies had been seasoned with kosher salt, pepper and garlic whereas being sauteed over medium heat in a small quantity of oil, to stop sticking, and half a cup of rooster broth. After a few minutes of cooking, and whereas the veggies have been still good and crisp, they had been pushed to the side of the pan - the great thing about a big deep-dish frying pan - to make room for an egg that needed scrambling.

As soon as the egg was scrambled the leftover rice was tossed in with the egg and veggies, along with some oyster sauce. The whole lot was stirred collectively until it was heated through. The fried rice concoction was then transferred to two plates, topped with the cooked sole and evenly drizzled with oyster sauce.

So easy and fast, and bonus, my husband truly liked it - a lot!

While this was not a gourmet meal it labored in a pinch and was surprisingly tasty.

It's amazing the options obtainable to us with just a few fundamental seasonings, some leftover rice or pasta, a number of veggies and meat (or not).

Preparation -

1. Prepare ingredients as noted.
2. Cook rice or quinoa whilst you put together veggies and almonds, or reheat leftovers of either - simply before veggies are done.
3. Mix together soy sauce and brown sugar. It ought to have a minimum of a hint of sweetness to it.
4. Add oil to a wok or deep-dish frying pan and saute garlic and all vegetables over medium excessive heat.
5. A few minutes into the cooking course of add half of the soy sauce and brown sugar combination to veggies (or your favorite Asian sauce).
6. Cowl pan and permit steam to assist cook the veggies.
7. Add remaining soy sauce and brown sugar combination as needed.
8. Watch out not to overcook the veggies. They should be crisp and stuffed with coloration when pulled from the heat.
9. Serve over quinoa or rice and sprinkle with roasted almonds.

The key to being artistic and spontaneous with Stir Fries is ensuring you've 'the basics' in your pantry. The fundamentals for me are pasta, rice, noodles, sauces and seasonings. With these basics in inventory it's as easy as trying in the fridge and freezer to determine what veggies and protein, etc. you feel like together with in your Stir Fry cooking adventure.
