First thing to check...see if it just needs a drop of 3-in-one oil wher the stem comes out of the motor. Just lay it on it's back and drip a drop of oil in there. Then, put another drop of oil where the fan oscellates from the base...probably holding it up-side-down <:O)
Next thing to look for...the clicking sound may be from one of the fan blades lightly tapping the protective cage.
To check for that, run the fan, then turn it off. watch closely as the turning blades slow to a stop and see if you can spot which blade is clicking against the cage. Could be the cage has been bent lightly....or the blade is slightly bent.
Just take a pair of pliars and either bend out the wire on the cage...or give the blade a little bend.
Should get rid of the annoying 'click, click, click...
Of the ones I've fixed, it's usually the wire cage that either gets kicked or bumped with a drawer..just bending one of the wires toward the inside...just enough for the fan blade to hit it.
Last thought...if the fan has an option to operates as it remains stationary, not oscellating...then just use it that way...
