Understand The Principles Powering Heat Transfer Engineering
If you want to be certain that your home is efficient in terms of energy use then it is important to understand the concept of heat transfer analysis. Typically, it is the cost of heating our homes that makes up the largest chunk of our annual utility bill. If your property is not kept correctly insulated then the result can be very severe. In these days of financial uncertainty it is important that we take all the steps we can to ensure that we do not waste energy.Pratt & Whitney engineers have the expertise and experience to help.
We are taught even at a young age that heat will flow from hot surfaces to cold. This is all too obvious. We know that a piece of furniture next to a heater will become warmer quicker than those objects that are further away. This concept is referred to simply as heat radiation.
When the heat is carried through a solid object then the process at work is referred to as conduction. For example, when you place a poker in a hot fire the heat will be absorbed and conducted through the metal. It is the process of conduction in heat transfer that needs to be understood in full when it comes to insulating our homes. Without the right materials you will discover that more heat is quickly lost through the walls and ceilings in your rooms
The final type of heat transfer is called convection. Convection results when the heat energy is dissipated by air or water. Convection currents are moving bodies. We can see how the global weather systems use convection to transfer heat and energy around the atmosphere. If you have a fan heater then this will also incorporate the principles of convection. A draughty room will lose heat through convection.
Now we understand a little about how heat is transferred, but how can we take this knowledge and implement it into our homes? Well, we need to understand that heat and mass transfer have dramatically advanced over the last ten years. By choosing the right building materials and insulation you can make changes so that you bring down the amount of heat transferred both inwards and out.
When you check out various materials as insulation look for the "R" rating. This will help you to understand how suitable the product is. The higher the "R" rating the more efficient it will be at stopping the transfer of heat.
Remember that it is not just through your roof that energy can dissipate. Your walls, windows, doors, in fact any physical structure needs to incorporate a design that will reduce the flow of heat. You need to think about the complete property and not just specific parts of the structure.
There have been major advances by Pratt & Whitney in the understanding and technology that relate toheat transfer engineering over the last 10 years. Now it is easier for us to have control over the way we heat and insulate our homes. Apart from the obvious financial savings there is also the fact that you will lessen your carbon footprint.
PS3 Slim Fan/Heat Problem?
My stupid brother messed with my ps3 one day and turned it off and on for atleast 20 times in a matter of minutes. ever since then, after 15 minutes of playing cod. it sounds like a jet engine. ive tried everything to keep it cool, but it just keeps heating up and sounds like its going to explode. i have it on a stand, 5 inches air vent all around, and its not blocking any vents. im wondering what i should do to help this problem
Have the thermal paste replaced inside. That is one of the main causes of the system overheating. Sony uses a cheap substance when they build the PS3's. I would also allow for more than 5 inches of space on all sides. I would set it out in the open, vertically. Some people also try putting something underneath the console when it is horizontal. Objects like soup cans. If these tricks don't work than definitely look into getting the the thermal paste replaced. I wouldn't send it to Sony though. They will charge you $150 to look at it and you will be without your system for 2-6 weeks. Look for a local tech that has experience with consoles and have them look at it.
