Choosing The Right Fireplace Accessories
For anybody who is lucky enough to enjoy the luxury of a fireplace in their own home, it will be essential to acquire all the right fireplace accessories to go with it. With the wide range of fireplace accessories to choose from, it might be difficult to determine which might be the most important, however there are actually two or three in particular which are especially important.
One of the most important fireplace accessories you should have for a fireplace is actually the poker. This is an important accessory mainly because it helps you poke the burning wood around inside the fireplace as well as avert burning your hands. If you want to create aeration under a log or just shift one further back so it is easy to place a new log inside, a poker is an essential tool to get for your fire.
A fireplace brush is another essential accessory. You make use of this for cleaning out ashes and keeping the space around the fireplace clear. You may well also want a fireplace shovel which is a smaller sized shovel used for picking up burning ashes so you are able to return them to the fireplace. This helps stop the fire from escaping your fireplace and creating a threat.
There are fireplace safety gates it is possible to purchase when you have young children in the house. This gate ensures you still receive the warmth and charm of your fireplace but without the danger of the child getting harmed. The gate covers the fireplace and keeps children at a far enough distance away so that they can't really contact the fireplace and get injured.
Even when you only have a gas fireplace, you can still make it look like a much more classic fireplace and add a finishing touch to the room with a set of fireplace accessories. These are just a couple of ideas and there are lots of others to choose from as well. You can leave a set of accessories standing up alongside the fireplace and produce the warmest, most luxurious look.
In the event that you're interested in purchasing fireplace accessories, no matter what design and style or price range you're seeking, you can pay a visit to local stores in your region or search on the web to see exactly what you are able to discover. For a far more traditional appearance, choose tools for the fireplace with curved edges and manufactured from raw brass. For a modern appearance you will need to find smooth, streamlined accessories made from iron or copper. You will discover more than ample choices to select from and you are able to develop the perfect fireplace and you can even find a total accessory set which includes all of the tools you need.

How do I turn on our gas fireplace?
We a renting a house and the gas fireplace has a metal key to the floor on one side (I guess to turn on the gas) and 2 switches on the right. One switch makes a fan noise. The other we have no idea what it does. Underneath the gas fireplace are the instructions which we can follow just find but can't figure out what to do with the switches next to the fireplace.
First off ask your landlord if the fireplace is in working condition. Sometimes they are shut off in the basement. Ask him to explain how to start the fireplace. You could blow up the whole house if you don't know how to light the fireplace.
Heating up (jsonline)
No matter how cold, snowy or miserable this winter gets, Ellen and Joe
Turzynski will have a reason to smile: no heating fuel bills.
The Turzynskis haven’t opted to forego heat. Instead, they are tapping
the earth’s natural warmth for their 141-year-old Genesee Depot
farmhouse. A brand new geothermal system collects heat 8 feet underground and
moves it indoors. A blower distributes the warmth throughout the house.
The geothermal system replaced a decades-old oil heater in the Victorian
farmhouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The
Turzynskis don’t know how much they’ll save — it’s
their first season heating with geothermal — but are pleased with the
new level of warmth and comfort.
“The heat was very uneven before,” Ellen Turzynski said. “We
used a gas fireplace in the living room during winter to warm it up. Now the
heat is very even. Our basement is also better heated.”
Winter isn’t the only time the Turzynskis will save energy and,
concurrently, money. The geothermal system heats their water year-round.
During summer the system essentially operates in reverse to cool their home,
replacing air conditioning.
The upfront cost for geothermal isn’t cheap. Installation can easily
cost $20,000 ...
