my lennox model #G12D-110 burners will not light?
I have a lennox model #G12D-110 and the pilot light will work but the burners will not ignite if anyone coud answer my question as to what is wrong it would be greatly appreciated. ph and i also replaced the thermo coupler and the thermostat on the wall and also blew out the four burners too if that makes any diffrence. thank you for any answers that reply
First of all G12 110,000btu (thats big model) older too
Atmospheric burners, standard gas valve, fan centre/control with built in limit (silver box with white knob to push in to turn on fan - check that see if fan starts, that means you have power)
The pilot must stay lit first off all if you replaced t couple and you can't keep pilot the valve is gone.
take the 2 wires coming off the gas valve going to the thermostat and put them off the valve, now take a wire and put those 2 terminals together on the valve the it should fire. If it doesn't then the 24volts is not there.
Eleminate the thermostate and the wire from the equation and get the 24v needed for the valve.. if your really stuck you can use seperate transformer to 24v 40VA to send that power to the valve to see if it opens and closes.
That should tell you what is going on without the thermostat and wire in play, once you establish its not the valve then move on to the wire and stat. Check the limit also make sure the fan comes on and off, you may have a power issue.

Get a new furnace thats older model.
Here is how the power circiut goes... from furnace broken through tstat for 24 v control the tstat makes and brakes the 24 v signal to the valve, the transformer is wired with the fan limit so if the limit is gone the transformer stops all gas flow tot he unit, its saftey on the high limit side. The transformer job is only to provide 24 volts to the circit on the low voltage side, if that is gone, then yes you will have no heat. Even if you made pilot or not. Pilot is a saftey as you see the copper line off the T couple goes to the valve that is 1 volt approx sending signal to the valve that we have pilot. So those 2 things need to be in play and a call for heat accross the other terminals of the valve the tstat side, its called the coil. The gas valve is just a barrel with a magnetic plunger, the voltage makes the magnetic feild and the plunger goes up... when the tstat is satisfied the signal drops and the plunger goes down. Its normal break is in the off position but I have seen them stuck open also.
Hope that helps... its 2 loops 24 volt cycle made by the 120 v primary voltage needed for the fan motor and limit.. If you have air conditioning its just more wires and more connections that the only differance, new furnaces are much harder to diagnos and I would not even bother to tell you al lthis on here if I didn't think you could to it to that old puppy!
