Save Money By Making Your Own Wall Art
Nearly any room in your house can be spiced up and made more attractive when you display art on the walls. There are so very many artsy items out there that looking around for art becomes a very fun activity. Regrettably, some wall art can be nearly as pricey as it is beautiful. Try out the tips listed below and you will discover that you can produce your own beautiful and one of a kind artwork to decorate your home and at the same time not go bankrupt. Even if you don't think you have any artistic abilities, you will be able to utilize some of these ideas to create beautiful results.
Do Your Own Picture Framing
If you enjoy taking photos, chances are you have hundreds of them just lying in boxes and drawers. If you have a digital camera, you possibly also have a number of gigabytes of your hard drive devoted to storing your picture files. Why not use some of these pictures to make your own beautiful wall art? This project requires essentially no artistic skill, and can be very inexpensive. Just choose some of the photos you love the best and then hang them in simple round picture frames. You can even get your pictures enlarged by taking the prints or digital picture files to a print store or maybe a camera section in a nearby department store. Or, make a scrapbook page and display it in a 12x12 inch frame. When you are finally finished you will have art that is not merely meaningful to you personally, but which is also just as attractive as the prints that you can find at a gallery or perhaps some other stores that are very expensive.
Create Your Own Textile Wall Hangings
Fabric wall hangings are yet another form of art that can be used to add a lot of style to your home. You can make wall hangings even when sewing isn't your strongest skill. One way to accomplish this would be to tie some cords to a rod for support, then weave some strips of fabric around these cords to make interesting designs. If you enjoy quilting, you can create a small quilt wall hanging. You could even take a large piece of canvas, make a pocket along the top for hanging it up, then paint designs on it using stencils. If you've got children then they may also enjoy helping out with some of these crafts.
Making Wall Art by Using Collectables
Small collectables can also be used to produce interesting wall art. One thing you might try is to display a collection of some spoons or even perhaps thimbles on your wall. You might even have the ability to find display cases which are specifically created so that you will be able to do this. Or, create your own artistic display from small objects using a shadow box frame. If you like photography, you may even want to make interesting art arrangements with your collectables, which you can then photograph, print them out and display in interesting picture frames. This works whether you use objects that you have previously collected over time, or instead choose to search thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales to find neat objects that would look great in your house.
Whether you choose to work with your collectables or some simple pictures, you can't go wrong with these fun and easy methods for creating your own wall art.
Chimney installation through concrete foundation – insulation required?
I'm installing an exterior chimney for my wood stove and the horizontal piece is though the side of the foundation (all concrete - no combustibles).
I'm aware that with concrete I don't need to use the wall thimble (and actually can't since the hole isn't big enough to accommodate it) but should I insulate around the pipe? The chimney is already double wall insulated, but I was thinking if removing the flashing off of the thimble and placing it over my hole for a nice finish on the exterior and then using fiberglass insulation in between.
Is this a good idea and will it pass the W.E.T.T. inspection?
The reason I want to insulate the hole is simply to eliminate any possible draft or heat loss.
In the installation manual that's accompanied with my chimney it says the thimble is not necessary for concrete walls. It makes no mention of insulating, however.
i always run a clay thimble no matter what kind of wall i'm going through...make the hole bigger...dont use regular insulation , use a refractory insulation that is a spun ceramic and not fiberglass...one brand name is kaowool(kay-o wool)...
