GETTING TOGETHER TO BUILD GREAT TEAMS
Ask any two people whether teambuilding activities are measurably beneficial or whether they’re a more of a ‘feel-good’ add-on – and you’ll get two different answers.
While activities and interventions generally cover issues such as inter-personal skills and relationships, boosting self-awareness, attitudes and solidarity – it isn’t easy to calculate the return on investment. Is it possible to put a monetary value on emotional elements such as staff commitment, loyalty or morale?
The other side of the coin is that the success of an intervention can be measured in some of the outputs which have a monetary value, such as productivity improvements, sales targets achieved, budgets reached etc.
But team-building isn’t only driven by a need to measure the outcomes. Team building is widely recognized as a necessary and continuous focus in organisations wishing to maintain a competitive edge. The secret is thorough planning and strategic insight into the reasons why a team-building activity is required, what the desired result is and ensuring that the activity meets these objectives.

They will have practical suggestions for the most effective ways of engaging with the team, how to motivate them and how to inspire them. They should also be able to advise on what the most cost-effective and practical solution is.
A perennially popular solution for team building is experiential training which is based on the premise that employees are more likely to learn when training is linked to personal experiences.
