Ideas For Making Over A Period Home
Having bought our dream home we were keen to get started moulding it into the shape we wanted. We have to say however that the renovations we wanted to carry out took a great deal more time than we had initially thought, although in some ways this was a good thing because it meant we could take our time and get things the way we really wanted them. The original kitchen was very cramped and did not suit us at all. We adore cooking and trying out new recipes so we decided that the first major job we had to undertake was a complete overhaul of the kitchen area. The kitchen and dining room were separate as in most traditional houses of the style we had bought. However, we liked the idea of an open plan kitchen and dining area so we had our builders remove a wall to create a large contemporary kitchen/dining room. The builders also installed a large patio window which made the new room even brighter and more attractive For the kitchen, we chose contemporary cream and burgundy gloss units, treated ourselves to a range cooker and laid slate floor tiles into the dining area. I also wanted a really dramatic feel in the dining space so chose a striking black skull flocked wallpaper. For our living room we chose a sleek contemporary fireplace to give the room a striking focal point. We tried lots of paint colours on the feature wall and finally went for a lovely rich claret shade which gives the room a cosy feel. The old carpet had to go and we were thrilled to discover parquet flooring underneath it - and in perfect condition. We had the wood polished, which really finishes off the whole scheme. The bathroom upstairs presented us with a bit of a problem. It was built in almost an L shape which meant it was very difficult to make best use of the space. Because of this we decided to switch the water tank upstairs into the loft and fitted a small space saving and more economical boiler. We also fitted a new shower over the bath because there was no real room for a separate shower cubicle. We went for one of those impressive overhead shower fittings and replaced the worn floor tiles with sleek new tiles which we found at the local hardware store
Finally after many months and a few tears all the major work had been completed and the house looks fantastic. All that was required was to find a few appealing accessories to make the house feel a bit more lived in and welcoming. There are so many things to choose from but we adore scented candles, particularly the ones manufactured by companies like Yankee candles and True Grace candles. They really add a finishing touch to every home.
Wood burner Boilers..I wish to get one installed*I wish to know how much it costs*It is a add on to my system*
It all depends on what kind you want. I did one over the winter that was a "Cadillac" & the boiler alone cost $16,000 & change.
Want a "Chevy", it'll be cheaper.
Hope this helped, good luck!
